Rev. Dr. George E. Hicks

Rev. Hicks is a native of Manning, SC. He is the son of the late Edward Hicks and the late Shirley Hicks and was born and reared in the Cypress Fork Community in Clarendon County. He is a graduate of Manning High School and obtained the Bachelor's of Science degree from Paine College in Augusta, GA. He furthered his education at South Carolina State University where he received the Masters, Educational Specialist and Doctorate degrees, and he received the Master of Divinity degree from Erskine Theological Seminary in Due West, South Carolina.

Rev. Hicks is no stranger to education. His forty-six and a half years of educational experience include the following: twelve years as a teacher, one year as an assistant principal, twelve years as a principal, and twenty one and a half years as a college professor.  He has served on numerous committees at the local, state, and national levels and is currently serving as a Professor in the Education Department at South Carolina State University.

Rev. and Mrs. Hicks are the proud parents of four lovely children: Tiffany LaFaye, Danielle Jorgette, Brandon James, Melvin Grady (decased) and Cara Leigh. They are also the proud grandparents of five adorable grandchildren: A’Dayzia Andreanna, Andre Dy’Rell, Ayden Amere, Bryson James, and Aria Noel, and a great grandson Joshua J’aire Elmare Davis.

Rev. Hicks is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity, Inc.

Rev. Hicks is the PROUD pastor of Historic Liberty Hill A.M.E. Church in Summerton, SC in the Santee District of the Central Conference. He is the Dean of the Board of Examiners of the Central Conference and shares his gift and love of music whenever needed.

First Lady

Mrs. Judith Felita Grady Hicks

Mrs. Hicks, the daughter of the late Bishop Zedekiah L. Grady, and Retired Supervisor Carrie E.R. Grady was born in Georgetown, South Carolina. She was educated in the public schools of Charleston County and is a graduate of St. Andrews Parish High School. She is a graduate of Converse College in Spartanburg, South Carolina, where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Religion. She also holds a Certificate in Theology from the Interdenominational Theological Center in Atlanta, Georgia.   

At an early age, she joined Morris Brown African Methodist Episcopal Church and was active in many organizations and auxiliaries. After relocating to Columbia, South Carolina in 1990, she joined Chappelle Memorial African Methodist Episcopal Church, where until recently she served as the steward pro-tem, a member of the Lucille Holman Missionary Unit, the chancel choir and Stewardess Board #1.  She has served as a local YPD Director, local WMS president, the Columbia Area YPD director and the Columbia Conference YPD Director. She served as the 7th Episcopal District DMC Commissioner from 2003-2011. She served as the Conference Branch President of the Columbia Conference Women’s Missionary Society for eight years.

Mrs. Hicks is particularly interested in: “The role of women in the Old and New Testaments, the early church, the African American Diaspora and the civil rights movement.  She has an avid interest in “women’s issues.” She has written her first dramatization; “Journeying through the Scriptures with Women of the Bible” and continues to write vignettes of female Biblical heroines.

Professionally, Mrs. Hicks has been a part of the SCANA now Dominion Energy Family since 1986. A former Energy Educator, and Trainer, presently she is a member of the Workforce Development and Planning Team in the Human Resources Organization    

Mrs. Davis lists as her favorite scripture Psalm 46:1 “God is our refuge and strength a very present help in trouble.”
